A detailed shot of Cartograph's new wood-framed design

Truth be told, I really don't feel like writing this week. Still, showing up for your commitments (especially when you don't want to) is a fundamental skill if you want to build lasting healthy habits and one that I've struggled with in the past. So, this post is a homage to "contrary action," which involves doing the opposite of what you've done in the past. Like the quote I shared last week, if I want different results, I gotta start doing things differently.

What is the habit or ritual you're currently building? What are the things that get in the way and your strategies for getting around the barriers?

Work In Progress

Cartograph

This past week I started my user study for Cartograph. I completed two interviews this week and have eight more to go this upcoming week. In the meantime, I'm also creating my first-ever batch of fully functional Cartographs for user testing the following week, and people will be living with Cartograph for 1-2 weeks.

It's going to be a busy two weeks, but I'm really excited to get valuable feedback on how to improve Cartograph's user experience and make it the best possible tool for self-reflection and personal growth.

Below are a few photos final design for the alpha prototypes that will be tested next week. The final design features a machined acrylic front face and wooden framing to create a friendlier visual appearance and accentuate the materiality of the design. You can also see an example of how the board starts to look after a series of self-reflections. I'm really happy with how it came out!

Looking forward

Next week will be full of interviews, prototyping, and assembling for Cartrograph. If I'm lucky, I'll also make some progress on my kitchen organization project, and also my pact stand.

Sharing my design process has been helpful during this time, so thank you for taking the time to read and share your thoughts. I hope you're taking care and look forward to connecting soon.

With care,

Max
